Fiberglass Yurts - Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Yurt, anyway?
According to the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, a yurt is "...A circular, domed, portable tent used by nomadic peoples of central Asia. Russian yurta, of Turkic origin..."

Our design incorporates the same design principles but uses modern appropriate technology that is better suited for the demands of life today.

How much does a yurt cost?
The price depends on size and options. Our system, which is a rigid walled and insulated system, ranges from the mid twenties to the mid teens per square foot.

How long has your company been in business?
We are a new company with a new product, but the company is staffed by people with many years of construction experience and know how.

What is the structure made of?
The system is comprised of fiberglass reinforced plastic much like the hull of a fiberglass boat or automobile body.

Why is the system easy to maintenance?
The system is comprised of a very tough shell that has a marine grade gel coat and is easy to maintain. The only work that may needed is an occasional wax and wash once a year.

What happens if the system is damaged?
If the system is scratched all that is needed is a good quality wax and some elbow grease.

How could you make the system portable?
You could make a wood deck or set the system directly on a tarp over the ground like a tent. The system would need to be anchored with earth anchors such as tent stakes.

Why do you call it a yurt when it's made of composite materials instead of canvas and wood?
We have the same idea that the nomadic tribesmen of the great Asian steppes had, and that is to make durable living quarters that are simple yet strong and easy to move. We are using modern technology and design to make the system stronger, tougher, and warmer.

As we receive more questions from customers we will post the answers, because the only bad question is the one not asked.
